Turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, eat them, and die of suffocation. Each human being consumes an average of 53 kg of plastic per year: 9 million tons of plastic arrive in the world’s seas each year through rivers, garbage dumps, boats… Floating “continents” of plastic form ocean gyres and degrade into fine particles that contaminate the food chains of marine life. Scientists are just beginning to study the deleterious effects of plastics, so it is urgent to stop throwing them away! Single-use plastics must be banned from our daily life (Law voted for 2021).
