Exhibition Nicole King From the foam to the abyss, ecology of the depths
The 8th district city hall of Parispresents a retrospective of the artist Nicole King, a pioneer of militant ecological painting, in connection with the theme of water and oceans. For nearly thirty years, Nicole King has turned to painting, without forgetting her past as a scientist. Her missions as a field engineer allow her to choose the priorities to represent in her painting. As a painter and an ecologist engineer, Nicole King has chosen to serve the ecological cause by creating a body of images that reflect the magnitude of the challenges of the Anthropocene, from the hostage-taking of marine ecosystems by the fossil fuel industry to endangered species… The role of pedagogy is inseparable from the artistic approach of Nicole King who, since 2018, has been teaching Récup’art (visual arts from salvaged materials) in schools and mobilizing to raise awareness of the ecological emergency among young audiences. In 2019, as Artist in Residence at the Marly-le- Roi Boarding School of Excellence, Nicole King founded a workshop of plastic arts and ecology, entitled “Nicole’s Eco-school” which continues and reaches 150 middle and high school students.
